The word Soffit most often refers to the material forming a ceiling from the top of an exterior house wall to the outer edge of the roof, i.e., bridging the gap between a home’s siding and the roofline, otherwise known as the eaves. The soffit material is typically screwed or nailed to rafters known as lookout rafters.

Fascia is a term used in architecture to refer to a frieze or band running horizontally along the roofline and situated vertically under the roof edge. It forms the outer surface of a cornice. The fascia is visible from the outside of the house, as is the soffit.

Replacing old soffits and fascias with new materials will both improve the visual appearance of your house as well as improving the ‘health’ of your roof. Keep the elements and wildlife out, your roof will repay you for it! Good guttering will also protect the fascia and soffit area of your roofline.
